Texas Longhorns face key injuries, including Colin Simmons' high ankle sprain. Updates on Hollywood Smothers, Derrek Cooper, and potential replacements.
Injury concerns are rising for Texas Longhorns fans as defensive standout Colin Simmons suffers a high ankle sprain, putting his availability at risk ahead of a crucial matchup against Ole Miss. Will Simmons miss significant time, or could his absence be shorter than feared? The situation intensifies as Hollywood Smothers, the team’s leading rusher, faces an undisclosed injury, leaving questions about the Longhorns’ offensive firepower just as stakes climb.
With Simmons likely sidelined, all eyes turn to Lance Jackson, Rasheem Biles, and freshman edge rusher Richard Wesley to fill the defensive void. Derrek Cooper’s return is uncertain, but the next-man-up mentality could define this pivotal stretch. How will the Texas defense adjust to mobile quarterbacks like Trinidad Chambliss without their star pass rusher? The Longhorns' depth and resilience take center stage as the team aims to overcome adversity and stay on track for a strong season.
Longhorns fans, I'm worried. We have injury news and an additional injury to watch out for. What's going on everybody, it's your main man Madison Davis. This is Longhorns Hit, your twice a day 5-minute quick hit on your favorite team, the Texas Longhorns. And coming up, guys who have an opportunity to step up to the plate this weekend. Without further ado, let's get into these injuries. Injury number 1, the obvious, Colin Simmons. It's been said that he has a high ankle sprain, right? And there's been a number of how many, you know, weeks he's gonna miss or how many days, how many games he might miss. But I, I, I don't see a clear number. So as of right now, we're gonna say it's unknown how many, you know, how much time he's going to miss. But one source did say it's close. It's gonna be week to week. It's gonna be week to week. They're gonna try to get him back on the field. As soon as possible. Another injury, Hollywood Smothers. I, I don't— hey, Hollywood Smothers is apparently— it's per Sark, he's going through an undisclosed injury, and that worries me. That worries me. That worries me a lot because he's our leading rusher, right? And I like him as a lead back. Yeah. I do. I, I really do. And I, I think he adds an element— he and Raleek Brown, right? They add an element to this offense that I haven't necessarily seen yet, but I know it's there. It's there. It's there. And that can't take place unless he is on the field and Raleek Brown is on the field. That, that's just the fact of the matter. That's just the fact of the matter. Lastly, Derrek Cooper. Yeah, Derrek Cooper, he was dealing with an injury, which is why, per Sarkisian, he said that, you know, that's why he didn't really play in the game against the Florida Gators. And again, that worries me. That worries me. Now, I like my— I like, uh, Michael Terry. I do. I like Michael Terry. You know, um, Ryan Niblett could also step into that role as well. And then we still do have Raleek Brown, so that's a plus. But these injuries, man, at the worst point At the worst point. And all of these injuries are— they're, they're not minor. These are major, right? These are— and the guys that you're going to need, that we're really dependent on to make plays. So not sure how long Hollywood— Hollywood might not— he might not miss a game, right? But it's something that we're definitely gonna have to pay attention to. I think Derek Cooper will be back this week— this weekend, I should say. He'll be back this weekend, but Gotta keep an eye out on these injuries, man. I, I'm— that Colin Simmons one hurt me. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you. That Colin Simmons one, that one hurt me a lot. That one hurt me a lot, man. I'm— we're just gonna pray and hope that these guys can get back on the field as soon as possible. Coming up, guys who have an opportunity to step to the plate this weekend, this weekend, and we're depending on these guys a lot. Right? They they can literally change the trajectory of their career right here, right now. First man up. Yes, Lance has been doing his thing. He hasn't really been popping off on the stat sheet. However, Colin Simmons is going down. Right? That means somebody else has to pick up pick up the slack. Right? Somebody's gonna have to they're gonna have to pick up where they left off. Lance Jackson Jackson I'm sorry Lance Jackson. He's the next man up. He's the next man up to carry, you know, to carry that. And he, and really this could be a preview of next season. This could be a preview of next season because, you know, Colin Simmons, he's going to go to the, he's going to go to the draft. He's going to go to the draft. So, you know, this is a, this is a chance for Lance Jackson to really show, hey, I'm up next. I'm up, I'm, I'm, I, hey, that's me. That's me. That's me right there. So if Lance Jackson— we saw it a little bit in the Florida game, especially that last— well, the second to last defensive possession right before the offense turned the ball over. We saw him pop. We did. We saw that defense. Now, we still have guys, right? Another guy, Raheem Biles. I don't really say step up. I shouldn't really say step up for Raheem Biles because Raheem is— he's still doing his thing. He's cooking. But it's just another opportunity for him to even make his To make his case even, you know, larger, right? To make it even more known, right? Um, lastly, the last man, he's a youngin', he's a youngin', he's a young gun, Richard Wesley. Richard Wesley, um, the edge rusher. I'm looking, he's a freshman again, but I, I, I don't, I'm not gonna say I don't trust him because I do. I really do. He will be on the field for a reason. I'll put it to you like this. I'm not sure what to expect. Now, Hero Kanu, he said he has the tangibles. He's, he's a, he's physical. Physically, it's there. It's there. So we're gonna see. We're gonna, we're gonna see. Here's his chance right here, right now. And, and I don't know if it's— again, we don't know how long Colin Simmons is going to be out, but what we do know, he is more than likely going to miss this game. He's gonna miss this game against Ole Miss, and you know how Trinidad Chandler likes to— oh, he likes to get out that pocket. He likes— he's, he's a magician with the football, man. So we're gonna have to find a way to get to the quarterback without having Colin Simmons there. But it's been real with your main man Madison Davis. This is Longhorns Hit.
