Get the latest Texas Longhorns football recap: defense shines, Arch Manning's performance, offensive line concerns, and breaking a third quarter scoreless streak.
Texas Longhorns fans witnessed a standout defensive performance, with Raheem Biles notching 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 tackles, while Jelani McDonald and Justin Cryer delivered big plays under the aggressive system of Will Muschamp. The defense excelled even without star Colin Simmons, setting an intimidating tone for opponents.
Arch Manning impressed with a 16-for-20, 220-yard, 3-touchdown effort, though questions linger about his decision-making and the offensive line after 5 sacks allowed. Offensive inconsistency and risky quarterback runs raise concerns as the Longhorns prepare for tough matchups against Missouri and LSU. Breaking a third-quarter scoring drought with a clutch out-route to Raleek Brown sparks hope—but can Texas maintain momentum against top competition?

Coming up, we scored in the third quarter. What? I couldn't believe it. I know, I, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. But without further ado, let's go ahead and get into this. Now let's start with the really good. The really good is your defense, right? The really good is your defense being led by Raheem Biles, Justin Cryer, uh, Jelani McDonald, all of these guys. I mean, Raheem Biles had 3 sacks, a force— 2 forced fumbles actually, 8 tackles. You know, Jelani McDonald had 9 tackles. Justin Cryer had a sack, about 3 tackles. I mean, these guys are getting after it. You know, and Will Muschamp is, is, he is a mastermind. He really is when it comes to this defense. He knows what this defense needs and they play just like his, how can I say this? They play exactly how this man is wired in the mind, his mentality, and that's aggressive. They play aggressive. They're physical. They're fast sideline to sideline. There's not many teams that have an offense that can compete with my defense, right? And they showcase it week in and week out. And they're doing this without their best defensive player in Colin Simmons. I mean, adding him back is gonna be, it's gonna be insane. And that's the really good about this. The good. Arch Manning had a good day, a very good day in my opinion. 16 for 20, 220 yards, 3 touchdowns. And he did have that 1 turnover. That's why I'm not gonna say it was great. It was, it was really good. It was pretty good. Um, and, and he used his legs. He used his legs. I've been begging for that now. Arch, when you are using your legs, let's Let's be smart, okay? We don't need to take all these hits. And when you see somebody coming, maybe you should put 2 hands over the ball and let's go ahead and absorb the hit and go— let's go down, right? Or let's slide, right? We need to— we, we are what makes this train go, so we have to make smart decisions when we have the football in our hands, okay? We— that's what we need. Now, I saw one too many hits where it's like, okay, Arch, you need to get down. He runs high. Yeah. He does. He runs high, and when you run high, you are making it your bigger target for that defense. You're a quarterback, and when quarter— when defenses see quarterbacks run, it's free food. It's free food. So we're gonna need to get better at that. But other than that, pretty good. Bad: offensive consistency, where it, it's inconsistent. So offensive inconsistency, I should say. We're, we're like this still. We're like this, and we're, we're going into the back half of our schedule. We're like this, and we're about to Yeah, going to another— we got Missouri this weekend and then LSU. We're gonna need some consistency somehow, some way. I'm seeing the play calling sometimes is like, what are we doing? Right. And then even with Arch, this is— his decision-making was actually really good this game. But at times it was like, what are we doing? What's this? Right. You have a wide open guy in the flat and you're not— I mean, your 2 reads are taken away and it's taking you too long to process that they're not there. Dump it off in the flat. By the time you get to the flat, it's a fumble, right? So gotta get back. We gotta— that, that we have to get better at that in, in general. The ugly: Arch was sacked 5 times. This offensive line, guys, I, I don't know. That's my worry. That's my worry. I— hey, and we're about to go against some, some top-notch defensive lines here within the next 2 weeks. We have to fix it. There's no way Arch should be sacked 5 times, especially after last week, after the showing that you put out last week. Gotta get better at that. So that's the really good, good, bad, ugly from this past game. Coming up, we scored in the 3rd quarter. I cannot believe it. But first, we wanna give a quick shout out. Did we actually score in the 3rd quarter? We scored in the 3rd quarter. We, we actually scored in the 3rd quarter. Oh, I can't believe it. I can't believe we scored a touchdown in the 3rd quarter for just the 2nd time this season. Well, 2nd game. Second game this season, we actually scored a touchdown in the third quarter. The last time we did that, take a wild guess. Take a wild guess. I'm waiting. I'm waiting. Okay, I'm done waiting. Texas State, aka the very first game when we scored 21 in the third quarter. Yeah, this is, this is insane. And we actually outscored our opponent in the third quarter. It took Mississippi State not having their backup quarterback and not having their starting quarterback for us to do that. I, hey, I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it. No, but we have to build off of this. We can't, we can't remain stagnant in the third quarter because let me tell you something, we have Serious competition over these next few weeks. We're gonna have— we're gonna have to keep this going. We're gonna have to. Shout out to Raleek Brown and Arch Manning for connecting on that out route. You know, that little— it's a little, little, you know, you know, a little out, running back out. So a little love it. I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it. So we have to continue this. But it's your main man Madison Davis. This is Longhorns Hit, your twice a day, 5-minute quick hit on your favorite team. That's it from this hit. I will see you all in the next hit. Hook 'em.
